A Strange and Wonderful Thing Happened to Me Today

But first a little background:

Baptism Homework from Pope Francis

Back in September, I read about some homework that Pope Francis gave to his audience: look up the date of your Baptism. He was making the connection that the Church is our mother: “The day of our Baptism is the day of our birth in Church, the day our Mother Church gives us birth, how beautiful.”

I have to admit that I didn’t know the date of my own Baptism, so I made it a point to dig out my Baptismal certificate and look it up. Every time I remembered, though, I was either away from home or in a hurry to get something done, so during these past few months the “homework” has remained on my to-do list.

Until today, that is.

I woke up this morning and for some reason I remembered that I wanted to look up the date of my Baptism. I had some time before leaving for school, so I fished around inside the safe where we keep our important documents. When I finally found the certificate and looked at the date of my Baptism, I was shocked to discover that I was baptized on November 13.

Today.

So on this, the anniversary of my Baptism, I received a little reminder that the Holy Spirit is continually present in my life.

How strange and wonderful.
